Who We Are

CUG is a coalition of girl-serving organizations working together to build Chicago's first-ever Quality of Life Plan for Girls. Our role is to connect, amplify, and coordinate — we strengthen what our partner organizations are already doing by building shared direction and shared resources. You are the direct connection to girls. We are the infrastructure that makes that work more powerful.

Two connected studies ground our work:

01

Empower Your Voice (Sinai Urban Health Institute) found that nearly 1 in 4 middle and high school-age girls in Chicago report symptoms of depression or anxiety. More than 2 in 3 experience loneliness. The data reflects girls across Chicago's neighborhoods — including our Latina communities on the Southwest and Northwest Sides.

02

Coalition on Urban Girls (CUWG) builds upon this research and documents the varying quality of life conditions faced by girls across six areas. These studies clearly indicate that Chicago’s girls are not well, and a coordinated Quality of Life Plan is the appropriate response.
