What is the Community Learning Partnership?

The Community Learning Partnership (CLP) is a national model that prepares students to become skilled and credentialed community organizers, transformational leaders, and change agents in their local communities.

Who is this program for?

This application is for emerging community leaders, age 18 and up, who are passionate about community change and leadership, and want to improve their neighborhoods and city. The program is inspired by the national Community Learning Partnership (CLP) model and is being launched in Chicago by Kennedy King College in collaboration with the Southwest Organizing Project, Enlace, Northwest Center, Palenque LSNA, and Teamwork Englewood.

Why enroll in the Community Learning Partnership?

1. Positive Impact on Leadership. CLP is highly effective in developing leadership skills, self-confidence, and a sense of identity as community organizers and change makers. The program helps students envision themselves in leadership roles and build connections to a city-wide network of community organizers. The program teaches real-world skills in community organizing and development, particularly specific training in relational organizing and public life work.

2. Professional Development & Career Advancement. The program is attractive to employers, with many organizations expressing a desire to hire graduates of the CLP program. Past students state that the program helps bridge the gap in formal education and training for their career pathway. The program is also valuable for both current and prospective nonprofit staff by providing a solid foundation in community organizing.

3. Engaging Curriculum and Real-World Power Building. The CLP program provides practical experience, including internships, mentorship opportunities with community leaders in Chicago, and speakers who have led successful community organizing campaigns. The program also builds a strong peer network, enhancing opportunities for collaboration and future employment.

4. Diversity and Inclusivity. The program successfully integrates cross-gender, cross-race, and cross-age participation to foster a diverse learning environment.
